The alien Giegue was defeated at the hands of Ninten and his friends, not with a show of force but with a song that brought back painful memories. Giegue fled back into space for a few years, and cleared its mind. Literally, it erased everything it knew of those painful memories. Eliminating all emotion, including the love it once felt for it's surrogate Mother. Somehow it obtained an evil power by doing this, the power was so great, it's body was destroyed and it became a swirling red mass of Evil called Giygas.

I don't claim to be an expert on Giygas, so if I got the story a little wrong, don't blame me. Blame Nintendo of America. Hopefully the Re-translation Tomato is making will make things more clear for me.

Giygas is my favorite, if not ONE of my favorite video game villains of all time. Also one of the cutest, and when it becomes the red mass of evil, one of the scariest.


The fans of Giygas are split between loving this particular design of Giygas, and hating it. It was coined by Morphine, on deviant art, she is called cmmo.

There was never any official artwork produced of the creature. All we had to work with was a very thin stick figure with barely visible features, that was used for the final battle sprite in the original MOTHER. So Morphine improvised, and came up with a nice design, that I personally like.

The hatred for this design, usually stems from the dislike of the idea, that Giygas could possibly be female, despite the American translation of the game specifically calling it a male.

But that is not up for debate here.
