When I heard that Banjo got his own game after seeing him in Diddy Kong racing, I was all over it. But it took a little while for me to try Conker's bad fur day. I remember it well though.
My brother and I took all the change I had saved up for two years, in addition to my christmas money, intending to buy a gamecube. But we somehow left the money back at home... So my brother said "Hey let's get this game" he picked up Conker. He said he would pay me back half of the money... and eventually he did. Conker wasn't all that expensive anyways.
It was quite an experience. Cursing, vulgar humor, blood and violence, and suggestive themes? In a Nintendo game? No wai!
I am usually repulsed by that kind of thing in a video game, but something about Conker was genuinely likable to me. And the multiplayer... gosh that game had amazing multiplayer... I'm not big on multiplayer games, because my brother and I hardly ever played the few 2 player games I had with me as a kid... so I grew up on single player... luckily, you can play multiplayer mode on your own, and there were a variety of games to play. My favorite had to be the capture the flag... although it was so hard, even when the Enemy AI is set to "inbred" that I always set it to require only 1 victory.
Poor conker gets lost on his way home from the bar and is surrounded by all kinds of crazy situations from zombies, to nazi knock-offs, to dinosaurs, until he loses his girlfriend to a mafia boss's tommy gun, and the suction of outer space.
I can't help it wonder if the game still might have been good if they kept the kid friendly image originally planned for the game... part of me wishes they had. ( Let's pretend Conker's pocket tails never happened... ) The trailers for the game didn't look bad.
Ah well.
I somewhat hope the game get's a true sequel, and at the same time, I hope not. Either way, I probably won't get to play it unless someone offers to fix my Xbox for free.
